Ernest W Sturdevant began piano study with his mother, Mary, at the age of five. In middle school he began studies on the trombone, which continued through orchestra performances at Albion College, Michigan. His study of classical/liturgical organ began during high school and he has now ecumenically served congregations from Brooklyn, New York to Los Angeles, California.
Ernie’s love of vocal music was rooted in his tenure as choral accompanist during high school and later led to a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree from the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri-Kansas with majors in voice and minors in theatre & conducting. He continued his vocal studies in New York, New York – Los Angeles, California – Stuttgart, Germany and graduate study at Michigan State University & University of New Mexico.
Ernest’s professional music credits include concert, oratorio, music director, vocal coach, pianist, organist, arranger & composer. His personal interest and experience in bodywork, via conservatory training for singing, led to practical training in massage therapy. He now integrates the complimentary disciplines of music & bodywork into the successful training of singers and therapeutic massage. Ernie has taught college, workshops and private classes in music and maintains a busy schedule as a freelance musician-actor and sought after vocal teacher.
Since making Albuquerque his home, Ernest has worked in a variety of capacities and venues….
